Pollution standards

The environmental standards for large scale industrial activities are known as the ‘Best Available Techniques’ (or BAT) Reference Documents (EU BREFs), and the EEB plays a crucial role in the process that agrees these standards, constantly calling for improved environmental and human health protection performance for all activities, prioritising prevention at source. The EEB is currently engaged in different industry sectors through the EU BREF work:

  • Smitheries and Foundries
  • Ceramics manufacturing
  • Inorganic Chemicals
  • Slaughterhouses and Animal-bi products industries
  • Iron and Steel

We run a dedicated website that serves as a platform for sharing best practices in pollution prevention and control: European Industrial Production Information Exchange Platform (EIPIE).
