Creating a robust methodology for estimating greenhouse gas emissions mitigation will play a crucial role in the development of low-carbon innovation and climate change mitigation within sectors comprised in the EU’s Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). Hence, strengthening the methodology for the calculation of emissions mitigation within the Innovation Fund is crucial.
The Innovation Fund aims to support “innovative” or “breakthrough” techniques, so it is expected that projects would go beyond ’state of the art’ and the relevant EU ETS benchmark performances, pursuant to Article 11(1) of the delegated act. The methodology shall therefore be fully coherent to the zero-pollution agenda pursued within the new EU Green Deal.
