On 30 March 2022, the European Commission presented a proposal for a directive on empowering the consumers for the green transition. The EEB welcomes this proposal as a good step in the right direction to counter the lack of reliable information on products’ durability and reparability, early obsolescence and greenwashing. However, EU decision makers need to add more teeth to create the necessary framework allowing people to consume more sustainably. This document compiles amendments from the EEB, Client Earth, Carbon Market Watch and ECOS to the Commission proposal, considering also the amendments proposed in the ENVI Committee of the European Parliament.
