EU – UK relationship

On 31 January 2020, the UK officially withdrew from the European Union. Many environmental groups who have been working together with colleagues from other European countries for stronger environmental protections and collaboration across the region, are now concerned that environmental policies in the UK may not keep up speed with the EU. The EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) is a key tool to monitor the enforcement of environmental and climate standards and the SDGs.

In this context, the EEB will scrutinise the implementation of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA). The EEB facilitates the EU-UK Task Force comprising European environmental organisations and networks and environmental groups from the UK. Organisations on both sides of the channel monitor the TCA and are ready to address any divergence in environmental standards. The EEB also holds a seat on the Domestic Advisory Group for the TCA on the European side, with our members in the UK sitting on their respective DAG.
