Beyond the Battlefield: Understanding and Responding to War Waste – Learn, act, reflect
Brussels, 4 June 2025
Public debate “Beyond the Battlefield: Understanding and Responding to War Waste. Learn, act, reflect” is a partner event within the EU Green Week 2025 organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Resource and Analysis Center “Society and Environment” and European Environmental Bureau. The event aims at building better understanding the war waste in Ukraine and the ways to respond to this challenge.
The Russian aggression in Ukraine severely affects the environment, as well as leads to the formation of war waste. How much of this waste is there, what to do with it, can it be reused, how partner organizations can help with this? This is an indicative list of issues we want to discuss during our event.
The event is also designed to show the importance to address the issue at the political, scientific, infrastructure and financial levels, and demonstrate the role of EU circularity policies to address the challenges in Ukraine related to the war.
The topic is closely related to the principles of the post-war recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine, as well as future Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
The event will start from the key note speech from Ms. Svitlana Grynchuk, the Minister of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
