Save the Date: EEB’s Environmental Law Working Group – Environmental Law and Digital Spaces

Join us on 28th and 29th November 2024 for a day and a half of engaging discussions on environmental law and the digital space, as well as several other topics.

The digital space is increasingly intertwined with environmental law and protection, offering both opportunities and challenges. On one hand, digital tools like large language models are transforming legal science by enhancing the analysis and prediction of judgments, and electronic participation rights are empowering public involvement in environmental decision-making. However, the digital realm also brings risks: environmental defenders have faced prosecution simply for participating in online activism, and misinformation campaigns aimed at discrediting environmental efforts are spreading faster through digital channels. In this Working Group meeting we will consider how to balance these powerful tools with the need for vigilance to ensure environmental justice and protection in the digital age.

Other topics will include the EEB’s European Pact for the Future, civil disobedience in the context of the Aarhus convention and state aid on coal mines in Romania.

The morning of the 29th will be dedicated to a discussion on the NECPs process and will include other participants besides EEB members.

This event is addressed to EEB members only.
