Carbon Countdown: EU Climate Action Beyond 2030 – 29 November – Online
Hosted by European Environmental Bureau and Carbon Market Watch
Register in advance for this meeting here
The European Commission is currently preparing the ground for the EU’s post-2030 climate ambition and policy architecture with its upcoming Communication on the EU’s 2040 climate target and accompanying impact assessment. This is intended to launch the process of setting new climate targets that will allow the EU to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
This webinar aims to explore the reasons why setting explicit targets and policies for emissions reductions, land carbon sequestration and permanent removals in the post-2030 climate framework is a necessary part of the EU climate policy architecture. We will focus on the science that underpins the need for carbon removals, the risks of non-separated targets and policies, and the distinction between land carbon sequestration and permanent removals.
