A European Green Deal and the 8th Environment Action Programme – 10 October 2019
The European Green Deal is a major opportunity to respond to the triple existential threats from the climate crisis, biodiversity catastrophe and risks from chemical pollution. It can also catalyse a just transition for transformative change in Europe. It will be developed in the first 100 days of the new Commission and will be the major instrument for the 2020 to 2025 Commission term. In addition, the 7th Environmental Action Programme is coming to its end in 2020 and discussions are underway on developing the 8th EAP. And Agenda 2030 and the SDGs form another complementary process and commitment running to 2030.
EEB is organising a workshop to explore the relationship between the European Green Deal, the 8th EAP and SDGs, as well as what priorities and measures can and should be embraced to support a just transition.
The workshop will explore the following questions:
- What should the relationship be between the European Green Deal, the 8th EAP and Agenda 2030 and the SDGs ?
- Where are the common priorities and which process should do what ?
- What specific challenges are unique to the European Green Deal, 8th EAP, and SDGs ?
- What should be the substantive commitments and targets within the European Green Deal and the 8th EAP?
The event will take place on 10 October 2019 at the EEB office, Rue des Deux Eglises 14-16, 1000 Brussels – starting at 14:00 and finishing at 17:00.
