Under the Aarhus Convention processes, any NGO speaking does so officially under the umbrella name of the “European ECO Forum”, which is why there is an effort to coordinate the NGOs. The EEB coordinates the NGO engagement with the Aarhus Convention meetings, but formal membership to be part of this engagement is not required or necessary. To distinguish the NGO coordination under the Aarhus Convention with other international processes where NGOs also speak under the umbrella name of “European ECO Forum”, we informally identify as the “Aarhus ECO Forum”. (To know more about the latest developments of the overall European ECO Forum, click here.)

Given its informal and fluid nature, the EEB strives to be a point of reference for any NGO, governmental or intergovernmental institution wishing to engage or liaise with the Aarhus ECO Forum. To facilitate the coordination role of the EEB, NGO experts have grouped into taskforces where they can lead the discussions under their topics of interest. To consult the list of taskforces under the Aarhus ECO Forum and the name of the experts leading in those areas, click here.
