Francesca joined the EEB in 2018 and leads the EEB’s team on environmental law and justice. Francesca oversees the team’s work on implementation and enforcement, environmental rights and broad horizontal legal issues such as participatory rights and access to justice, as well as corporate accountability and liability.
She guides the EEB’s work on due diligence and is currently a member of the EU’s Domestic Advisory Group (DAG) for the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement. Francesca has also been part of the Seas at Risk Management Committee since spring 2024.
When she joined, Francesca coordinated the Implement for LIFE project which focused on the implementation of EU laws in the member states.
Before joining the EEB, Francesca worked for the NGO Shipbreaking Platform and for a Brussels-based sustainability consultancy, Lumina Consult. She also completed a traineeship at the European Commission’s Legal Service in 2012 where she worked in the External Relations and CFSP unit.
Francesca has a legal background, having obtained an LL.B. in Law (UK) with Italian Law and an LL.M. in International Law from University College London, as well as another LL.M. in Maritime Law from the University of Oslo.
Francesca speaks English, French, Swedish and Italian and is learning Arabic. She is passionate about the ocean.
