Will CAP eco-schemes be worth their name?
An expert snapshot assessment coordinated by BirdLife Europe, the European Environmental Bureau (EEB), and WWF European Policy Office, looked at CAP Strategic Plans (CSPs) across 21 EU Members States to see if the new form of direct payments for environmentally friendly farming / eco-schemes, are likely to deliver for environment and climate and align with the objectives of the EU Green Deal. Although the CSPs are subject to further changes before their formal submission to the Commission at the end of this year, they do serve as a good indication of how some 48,5 bn of EU funding is spent in the post-2022 CAP.
