
This new study, conducted by system change company Systemiq, on behalf of 10 European health, consumer and environmental organisations, reveals the current costs of the ready meals sector in the EU. A major burden on our environment, the diets and eating habits promoted by these food products are also weighing heavy on consumers’ health, our pockets, and public finances.
Regulating this fast-growing and particularly unhealthy segment of the food industry could have huge public health and environmental benefits. Among its findings, this report shows that improving these ready meals could save European consumers €2.8 billion annually, while at the same time reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 48 million tonnes a year.
