The EEB welcomes the EU Commission’s proposal for a Regulation on Vehicle Design and on Management of End-of-Life Vehicles (VDEoL), merging the End of Life Vehicles Directive and the 3 R Type-Approval Directive.
Due to their considerable size and widespread ownership motor vehicles constitute a significant repository of valuable materials. This makes the automotive industry a pivotal player in saving resources and curbing carbon emissions through circular economy practices.
This paper outlines opportunities and missed chances in the Commission’s proposal.
