This publication represents EEB’s first input into the public consultation on restricting the use of PFAS in fire-fighting foams. We developed on the scope of the restriction (broad and general but overlapping with and contradicting other regulatory proposals), on the general hazard assessment on all PFAS and some of its gaps. We also present information on alternatives in use, the environmental risks of the broad derogations in the proposal, and a case study on more progressive legislation.
