EEB input to the EU Environment Council Meeting, Luxembourg, 17 June 2024

In this letter, the EEB provided input to the EU Environment Council Meeting, Luxembourg, 17 June 2024, addressing all Environment Ministers of EU Member States, the Commission President, Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal and Commissioners for Environment, Transport, Energy, Industry, Agriculture, Health and Food Safety, and the Chair of the European Parliament Environment Committee.

The EEB’s demands come structured according to our understanding of the 17 June Council Agenda, i.e., under the following headlines:

  1. Nature Restoration Regulation (provisional A point, adoption of the legislative act)
  2. Directive on Soil Monitoring and Resilience (General Approach)
  3. Directive amending Directive 2008/98/EC on waste 
  4. Green Claims Directive
  5. Mid-term review of the 8th Environmental Action Programme
  6. EU climate target for 2040
  7. Climate Risk Management (adaption and resilience)
  8. Regulation on preventing plastic pellet losses to reduce microplastic pollution
  9. Vehicles Design and End of Life management Regulation
  10. Updated pollutants under the Water Framework Directive
  11. The European Pact for the Future – a green and social deal for a one-planet economy
