Europe has vowed to become carbon-neutral, but continued investments in gas infrastructure risk undermining this goal.

The EEB, together with CAN Europe, is asking the European Commission to exclude funding to new fossil fuel infrastructure, including gas, when drafting the Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP) and the next list of Projects of Common Interest (PCI). The letter calls on the Commission to:

  • Align investments with policy commitments, particularly those outlined under the Paris Agreement and EU Green Deal as well as the Commission’s Long Term Strategy from 2018;
  • Take into account realistic scenarios based on decreasing demand for gas and increasing uptake of renewable energy;
  • Divert all public funds to renewable energy instead.
