The Water Framework Directive (WFD) establishes a framework for the protection of waters throughout the European Union with the overarching objective to achieve good status of Europe’s waters by 2015. But currently, Europe’s waters are not good status; indeed they are in crisis.
This briefing, published by the EEB, alongside partner organisations NABU and BUND, reminds the European policymakers and member states alike of the existing tool we have at our disposal – and which we must leverage – to address the mounting emergency regarding this precious resource.
ClientEarth have also published a legal briefing that serves as a complimentary resource to this one.
