
The concept of ‘chemical recycling’ has been promoted by the industry for decades as a solution to the current plastic crisis. But this approach has its limits. Together with our campaign group Rethink Plastic, we outlined our priorities for policymakers.
It is key to uphold the precautionary principle and put in place the right policy framework to regulate new technologies, so as to avoid a scenario whereby chemical recycling becomes a loophole and undermines the objectives of the circular economy.
