During the upcoming Commissioner-designate hearings, CSOs are urging MEPs to advocate for the creation of a Next Generation 2.0 fund to drive Europe’s transformation in response to ongoing polycrises and geopolitical challenges. The Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) has already helped Europe recover from recent economic shocks, significantly increasing funding for a just transition to climate neutrality. A follow-up instrument would enable the EU to proactively continue along this path.
Eurobarometer polls consistently show that these issues resonate strongly with people across Europe. In 2024, 88% of European citizens said that a social Europe is personally important to them, while in 2023, over three-quarters (77%) considered climate change a very serious issue. Furthermore, public support for the RRF remains high, with 75% of citizens backing the initiative.
