As the European Commission gears up to deliver a new Circular Economy Act, in a political context characterised by the pursuit of ‘competitiveness’, the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) charts the path to a truly circular economy that benefits people and businesses at the lowest environmental cost.
If done right, circularity policies can help the EU reconcile resource consumption with planetary boundaries, reduce material dependencies, decarbonise the economy, and create opportunities for innovation.
True circularity starts with prevention and with making the sustainable choice the easy choice for people and businesses: the greatest economic and environmental benefits can be gained by acting early in the process, before products and materials turn into waste.
