This new report, published jointly by the EEB, BirdLife Europe and NABU, explores the EU’s reformed Common Agricultural Policy. Against the backdrop of the European Green Deal and its various environmental components linked to agricultural production, including, for instance, the Farm to Fork Strategy, this CAP was hailed as the ‘greenest ever’.
But focusing in particular on 17 CAP Strategic Plans recently submitted by EU member states and approved by the Commission, this paper raises some serious questions about how truly green this CAP is, concluding that in their present state, most CAP Strategic Plans not only fail to deliver for farmers and nature, but also imperil Europe’s long-term food security.
