In July 2023, the European Commission adopted its proposal for revising and merging the End-of-Life Vehicles Directive and the 3 R Type-Approval Directive into a Regulation on Vehicle Design and Management of End-of-Life Vehicles.
In this joint statement, industry and civil society organisations call for critical improvements to the legislation, including measures to enhance the reuse of parts and the high-quality recycling of materials from end-of-life vehicles. These steps are essential to align with the EU Waste Hierarchy, reduce the environmental impact of the automotive sector, and strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy through the availability of secondary raw materials.
