
The intensive use of natural resources worldwide is leading to rising and volatile resource prices. It has also caused severe environmental damage.The International Resource Panel (IPR)
of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) has warned that, by 2050, our current production and consumption patterns, along with increases to the world’s population and
prosperity, will see humanity’s annual consumption of minerals, fossil fuels and biomass reach 140 billion tonnes.
In this report we explain how policies aimed at improving the design of our products can help.
