Ahead of the upcoming Energy Council, the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) shares its recommendations on two key files shaping Europe’s energy future: the proposed grids package and the post-2030 renewable energy framework. Both are essential to lowering energy bills, strengthening energy independence, and cutting climate and air pollution.
The EEB calls for a targeted and sustainability-focused grids package that accelerates renewable deployment without weakening environmental safeguards or enabling fossil lock-in. It also urges a more ambitious and coherent post-2030 framework, with strong renewable and efficiency targets, improved governance and enforcement, faster electrification across sectors, and stronger support for energy communities, storage, and system flexibility.
