Online spaces are increasingly designed to trick us into purchasing more: dark patterns, addictive design, unfair personalisation, influencer marketing and exploitative tactics in video games, are making digital marketplaces more and more manipulative.

This causes economic, mental, and even physical harm, fuels overconsumption, and distorts fair competition.

In this joint letter with 100 consumer and environmental advocates, we remind the EU that protecting consumers online means protecting all of us: from minors discovering their first apps to seniors navigating digital services.

That’s why we demand an ambitious Digital Fairness Act that sets clear boundaries for what companies can and cannot do online. We need stronger rules to protect both consumers and the businesses that play fair.
