What are the environmental impacts of a product?
The “PEF” or Product Environmental Footprint is an initiative by the European Commission to create a harmonised methodology to answer this
question. The European Environmental Bureau (EEB) has been involved in this process at different stages, and this document summarises our recommendations on:
- the shortcomings of the PEF methodology
- for which purposes it should therefore not be used
- where the PEF can, nevertheless, be useful.
