This position paper argues that Europe’s industrial strategy should prioritise sustainability over simple “Buy European” origin rules. By linking public procurement and market access to strong environmental and social standards, the EU can create lead markets for clean technologies, circular materials and agroecological production.
Focusing on how products are made, not just where, would strengthen competitiveness, drive innovation and position the EU as a global industrial leader in sustainable and socially responsible production.
