As input into the upcoming EU Energy Council, the EEB sent a letter to the Energy Ministers of EU Member States. This letter includes the EEB’s position on how a range of items on the agenda are ever more important in light of the Russian invasion of the Ukraine – notably the Fit for 55 package given the multiple benefits of exiting from fossil-fuel dependency on Russia.

The letter according to our understanding of the 27 June Council Agenda, namely:

  1. Revision of the Energy Efficiency Directive (recast)
  2. Revision of the Renewable Energy Directive
  3. Revision of the Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings
  4. Energy situation in the EU in the context of the war in Ukraine
