North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Serbia<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun MacChromeBold SCXW5259617 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\">,<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun MacChromeBold SCXW5259617 BCX0\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\"> Turkey<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun MacChromeBold SCXW5259617 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\"> and Ukraine,<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun MacChromeBold SCXW5259617 BCX0\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\"> the official candidate countries, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun MacChromeBold SCXW5259617 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\">,<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun MacChromeBold SCXW5259617 BCX0\" data-contrast=\"none\"> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\">Kosovo<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun MacChromeBold SCXW5259617 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\"> and Moldova<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun MacChromeBold SCXW5259617 BCX0\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\"> as potential candidates, need to overcome a wide range of environmental challenges such as air and water pollution, land degradation, waste management and the loss of biodiversity before joining the EU.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun MacChromeBold SCXW5259617 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\"> In Ukraine, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\">people<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\"> and the environment, suffer from Russia\u2019s horrendous invasion, the destruction of <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\">important infrastructure<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TrackChangeTextInsertion TrackedChange SCXW5259617 BCX0\"><span class=\"TextRun MacChromeBold SCXW5259617 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\">,<\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun MacChromeBold SCXW5259617 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\"> as well as the contamination of nature and agricultural land. The EEB supports its members in Ukraine <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\">o<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\">n the path <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\">to<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\"> reconstruction, recovery and assession to the EU<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW5259617 BCX0\"> and is advocating for a green and sustainable future for Ukraine.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW5259617 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:288,&quot;335559740&quot;:270}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The EEB has worked<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and will continue to work<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> with EEB member organisations and other environmental NGOs in<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> EU<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"none\">candidate and potential candidate<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> countries. The focus is on promoting better environmental policies in <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">these <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">countries and strengthening collaboration with NGOs working in these regions.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:225}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The EEB works to improve the commitment and capacity of NGOs to give citizens a voice and to influence the reform processes in the environment<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">al<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> sector. Activities focus on the analysis and monitoring of the situation and on advocacy for European environmental standards where these can make a positive difference. The EEB follows developments concerning the accession negotiations with candidate countries in<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> Eastern Europe,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> South-East Europe and Turkey.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:225}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Next to the candidate countries, the EU also agreed on a European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) in 2004 with the objective of avoiding new dividing lines between the enlarged EU and its non-members and strengthening the prosperity, stability and security of the states concerned.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559739&quot;:225}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The policy applies to the EU\u2019s immediate neighbours by land or sea. The ENP countries, primarily developing countries, include some countries that seek to one day become either a member state of the European Union, or more closely integrated with the European Union. These include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> Georgia. The South-East partnership aims at Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, the Palestinian Authority, Syria, and Tunisia.
