{"id":100331,"date":"2019-10-28T15:31:24","date_gmt":"2019-10-28T14:31:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eeb.org\/?page_id=100331"},"modified":"2022-07-25T14:31:48","modified_gmt":"2022-07-25T12:31:48","slug":"cutting-emissions-from-farming-project","status":"archive","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/eeb.org\/hu\/cutting-emissions-from-farming-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Cutting Emissions from Farming"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>An unavoidable step after Paris: Cutting emissions from farming<\/h1>\n<h4><b>In the EU, food production accounts for at least 15% of net greenhouse gas emissions \u2013 not to mention the significant emissions embedded in imported livestock feed and other inputs. <\/b><strong>This means that limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees will only be possible if the agriculture sector plays its part and significantly reduces its emissions \u2013 just as many<\/strong><strong> other industries are doing. Public policy and farm subsidies need to drive the just transition to climate-neutral agriculture.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>There are several ways this can be done, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduce farm animal numbers in Europe<\/li>\n<li>Promote EU-wide adoption of agroecological farming practices &#8211; a nature-friendly and climate-neutral approach to farming<\/li>\n<li>Enforce best practices in nutrient management<\/li>\n<li>Protect and manage permanent grasslands, climate and biodiversity<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the conservation and fund the restoration of wetlands, peatlands and forests<\/li>\n<li>Help farmers adapt to a changing climate by building a resilient and diversified agriculture sector<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Given that climate change and the enormous global loss of biodiversity are closely linked, we must avoid narrow-minded climate action that has knock on negative impacts on biodiversity.
