What if economic success was measured not by how much we produce, but by how well people and planet can thrive?
This new publication explores the growing momentum behind the Wellbeing Economy and Beyond GDP movements, which challenge the dominance of GDP growth as the main measure of progress. It makes the case for economic governance that puts wellbeing, social justice and ecological stability at the centre of decision-making.
Drawing on international examples, EU and UN processes, and developments in Austria, the brochure shows how alternative indicators and wellbeing frameworks can help steer policy towards what truly matters: quality of life, fair distribution, democratic participation and living within planetary boundaries.
The publication also highlights the role of civil society, alliances and public institutions in turning Beyond GDP from a technical debate into a political project for a fairer and more sustainable economy.
