That\u2019s only eight kilograms less than the 496kg generated in 1997, when figures were first compiled.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"cb-itemprop\">The growing amounts of waste raise financial, health and environmental concerns, said the EEB.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>The EEB is Europe\u2019s largest network of environmental citizens\u2019 organisations with 150 members in more than 30 countries.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"content_link\" href=\"https:\/\/meta.eeb.org\/2019\/01\/31\/europes-waste-problem-in-numbers\/\" target=\"_blank\" ><span class=\"icon\"><i class=\"icon-lamp\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><span class=\"title\">See more here<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-97508 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/eeb.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Waste-gen-768x644.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"439\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eeb.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Waste-gen-768x644.png 768w, https:\/\/eeb.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Waste-gen-300x251.png 300w, https:\/\/eeb.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Waste-gen-174x146.png 174w, https:\/\/eeb.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Waste-gen-50x42.png 50w, https:\/\/eeb.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Waste-gen-89x75.png 89w, https:\/\/eeb.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Waste-gen.png 940w\" sizes=\"(max-width:767px) 439px, 439px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The analysis considers all the waste generated by households and offices.<\/p>\n<p>Figures reached a peak of 524kg per person in 2007 and a low point of 479kg per person in 2013, when they began growing again.<\/p>\n<p>With over 600kg per person, <strong>Germany<\/strong>, <strong>Denmark<\/strong>, <strong>Cyprus<\/strong>, <strong>Luxembourg<\/strong> and <strong>Malta<\/strong> generated the most waste across the EU.<\/p>\n<p>The primary objective for EU countries is to reduce waste, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/?qid=1536750488448&amp;uri=CELEX:02008L0098-20180705\">European Commission\u2019s strategy<\/a> to transition to a circular economy, where waste is prevented and materials are recycled.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Newly released data shows little to no progress in reducing waste across the EU, the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) warns.
