But how easy is it to find sustainable products across Europe? We ran a mystery shopping exercise in 13 countries to find out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The snapshot survey was carried out by the EEB and BEUC in collaboration with <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW262763629 BCX0\">1<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW262763629 BCX0\">2<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW262763629 BCX0\"> national consumer <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun CommentStart SCXW262763629 BCX0\">organisations<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW262763629 BCX0\">and <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun CommentStart SCXW262763629 BCX0\">one national ecolabel competent body. Mystery shoppers checked supermarkets<\/span><span class=\"TextRun Highlight SCXW28130072 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\">\u00a0in Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, France, G<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\">ermany, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\">Greece, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\">Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\">Norway, Portugal, Slovakia<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\">,<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\"> and Slovenia.<\/span> T<span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\">hey considered<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\"> the following ecolabels: the EU Ecolabel, the Scandinavian Nordic Swan,<\/span> the <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\">Ger<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\">m<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\">an Blue Angel<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\">,<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\"> and the Austrian Ecolab<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW28130072 BCX0\">el.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"LineBreakBlob BlobObject DragDrop SCXW28130072 BCX0\"><span class=\"SCXW28130072 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><br class=\"SCXW28130072 BCX0\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The results? In most countries, products carrying these robust ecolabels are cheaper than conventional products, but their availability varies enormously across countries &#8211; from 80% of supermarkets in Denmark, to just 2% in Cyprus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supermarkets play a key role in ensuring products carrying ecolabels are available, visible, and affordable to consumers.
