Industrial Accelerator Act: EEB recommendations
This paper analyses the EU’s Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA), assessing whether it can effectively support Europe’s industrial decarbonisation goals. It examines key aspects of the proposal (including permitting reforms, Industrial Manufacturing Acceleration Areas, low-carbon product standards and market quotas) and argues that the Act has shifted away from its original climate focus towards a broader industrial agenda. The paper highlights risks linked to weakened environmental safeguards and insufficient structural support, and outlines recommendations for the IAA to genuinely accelerate a fossil-free industrial transition in Europe.
