The problem\u00a0must end, the European Parliament is expected to signal this week.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Parliament will vote tomorrow on whether to restrict recyclers from trading in waste containing chemicals\u00a0banned in virgin materials. A discussion is scheduled for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/eeb.us13.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=0b72b745a8222140f6076e08b&amp;id=3bf37bc874&amp;e=f5976a62d9\">today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The vote is not on draft\u00a0legislation, but responds to a\u00a0European Commission call for views. The Council of Ministers has already made a <a href=\"https:\/\/eeb.us13.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=0b72b745a8222140f6076e08b&amp;id=6ecadb702f&amp;e=f5976a62d9\">strong call<\/a>\u00a0to detox products and waste. Doing so would improve recycling and lower chemical exposure that is lowering human fertility rates, among other growing problems.<\/p>\n<p><em>The European Environmental Bureau (EEB) is Europe\u2019s largest network of environmental organisations with 141 members in over 30 countries.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>EEB senior policy officer for chemicals,\u00a0Tatiana Santos, said: <\/strong><em>&#8220;The waste sector has a free pass on certain chemical laws. We understand some recyclers even actively oppose chemical restrictions, preferring to turn a blind eye. Detoxifying\u00a0waste\u00a0is a challenge, and the sector can only play the cards that product makers deal.
