This is an <strong>online<\/strong> event open to EEB member organisations, which aims to provide a space for discussion on our recent and upcoming work priorities and to present some specific insights related to EU climate and energy policy. During this meeting we will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Review our <strong>work programme and network priorities\u00a0<\/strong>for 2024, with the opportunity to exchange updates across member organisations and work areas.<\/li>\n<li>Continue our network discussion on <strong>renewables deployment<\/strong> via a panel discussion including speakers from the EU Joint Research Centre (JRC) and a Q&amp;A session to discuss the potential and challenges of developing renewables in rural areas.<\/li>\n<li>Examine the challenges and prospects of new EU rules and instruments such as the <strong>Emissions Trading System 2 (ETS-2)<\/strong>, the <strong>EU Social Climate Fund<\/strong>, and the<strong> Fluorinated Gases (FGas) Regulation\u00a0<\/strong>in a session exploring their implications for climate action, decarbonisation of end uses &#8211; in transport, heating and cooling &#8211; and a just energy transition in Europe.<\/li>\n<li>Take stock of the current push for technologies such as <strong>nuclear<\/strong>, carbon capture and storage (<strong>CCS<\/strong>) and <strong>hydrogen<\/strong>, what role they can reasonably be expected to play in the fight against climate change, and what risks may arise from an over-reliance on these technologies in the EU.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Participants are welcome to attend the full day meeting or choose which specific sessions they would like to register for. In-person attendance is also possible for Brussels-based members.
