{"id":108892,"date":"2022-11-29T11:43:47","date_gmt":"2022-11-29T10:43:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eeb.org\/?post_type=library&#038;p=108892"},"modified":"2022-11-29T11:47:41","modified_gmt":"2022-11-29T10:47:41","slug":"letter-to-eu-ministers-guarantee-an-effective-corporate-sustainability-law","status":"publish","type":"library","link":"https:\/\/eeb.org\/en\/library\/letter-to-eu-ministers-guarantee-an-effective-corporate-sustainability-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Letter to EU ministers: Guarantee an effective corporate sustainability law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday, 28 November, we joined the European Coalition for Corporate Justice and 50 other civil society organisations to send letters to EU ministers asking them to take a constructive position on the corporate sustainability due diligence directive to protect human rights, the environment and climate.<\/p>\n<p>The letter welcomes the efforts of governments to act quickly and commends the outstanding leadership of the Czech Presidency on delivering a workable text.\u00a0However, rather than living up to international standards and strengthening the European Commission\u2019s\u00a0proposal, some parts of the draft law have been dramatically weakened while under discussion in the Council.<\/p>\n<p>We urge EU ministers to use their vote on\u00a01 December in favour of a general approach that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Covers the full value chain, including downstream impacts and the full coverage of the financial sector;<\/li>\n<li>Expands the scope of rights and impacts covered, including climate impacts and concrete transition plans;<\/li>\n<li>Strengthens access to justice and addresses barriers to justice often faced by claimants in business-related human rights and environmental cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The directive has the potential to be a win-win for citizens, companies, states and the planet but its rules must be robust and based on justice not profit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":101034,"template":"","library_category":[430,416],"library_tags":[485],"class_list":["post-108892","library","type-library","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","library_category-environmental-justice","library_category-sustainability-governance","library_tags-letter"],"acf":[],"jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/eeb.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/library\/108892","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/eeb.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/library"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/eeb.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/library"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/eeb.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/101034"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/eeb.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=108892"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"library_category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/eeb.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/library_category?post=108892"},{"taxonomy":"library_tags","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/eeb.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/library_tags?post=108892"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
