It is based on a new paradigm for international trade \u2013 ethical world trade \u2013 that would replace the current paradigm of \u201cfree trade,\u201d on which the EU\u2019s external trade strategy and policy builds, although in recent years enriched by elements of sustainability and a move towards economic geopoliticization. The proposed paradigm shift overcomes the bipolar dichotomy \u201cfree trade\u201d vs. \u201cprotectionism,\u201d including the new developments in recent times, proposing a reasonable way in between: ethical trade.
