EEB calls on EU to deliver on Paris climate agreement

Statement by Jeremy Wates, Secretary General of the European Environmental Bureau, regarding the signing of the Paris Agreement by world leaders in New York, on 22 April 2016:

It is great to see world leaders sign the Paris Agreement, but this piece of paper will only become meaningful if countries now start implementing concrete actions in line with keeping global warming below 1.5 Degrees C. The EU should be leading on this by making energy efficiency a key pillar of its energy policies. Now is the time for climate commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete to get the EU energy efficiency target raised significantly. Without this, and a greater effort to boost renewable energies and back out of fossil fuels, one would have to question whether the EU is really willing to play its part in delivering on the Paris Agreement.”
